Vienna is one of Europe's great Christmas market capitals. From mid-November the city lights up with Advent markets in front of the City Hall, in the courtyards of Schönbrunn and Belvedere palaces and in the narrow Biedermeier lanes of Spittelberg. The Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz is the biggest, with a park full of illuminated trees and an ice-skating trail beside it.
