Salzburg has 5 Christmas markets in our directory. Confirmed 2026 dates: Salzburger Christkindlmarkt, 19 Nov 2026 – 1 Jan 2027. Last season most opened around 20 Nov and the last one closed on 6 Jan 2026; 3 stayed open after Christmas. All are free to enter.
Salzburg's Christkindlmarkt on Cathedral Square and Residenzplatz has roots going back to the late 15th century, and with the baroque cathedral in front and the Hohensalzburg Fortress above, it's one of Europe's most atmospheric settings. More markets fill Mirabell Square, the courtyard of Hellbrunn Palace and the fortress itself on Advent weekends.
Salzburg is also the home of Silent Night: the carol was first performed in 1818 in Oberndorf, north of the city, where a small Christmas market is held near the Silent Night Chapel.
Sorted by opening date. Dates shown are from the 2025–26 season unless 2026 dates are marked — check the official website before you go.
